About Us

The Heart Behind the Mission

Our Story – A Lived Experience

Who we are is not simply a list of what we do. We are a group of individuals drawn together by a passion for well-being, born out of a deep realisation of the impact of mental illness and the scars of negative childhood experiences.

Our story is personal. As mother and daughter, we have walked the journey of mental health challenges together — one as a carer, the other as the one receiving care. From this place of lived experience, we know the importance of safe spaces, understanding, and hope.

That is why Flourish1Life exists: to create spaces that heal and restore wellness, strength, and dignity. We each have one life to live, and a flourishing mind makes room for a flourishing life.”

Our Founder & Team

“Flourish1Life was birthed out of a lifelong passion for empowerment and trauma-informed care, founded by Dr. Florence G. Sutherland, whose doctoral research focused on ministry and women’s empowerment.

We are strengthened by a diverse team—including a psychiatrist among our directors—which means our bank of skills gives us the confidence to say, ‘we’ve got your back.’ Our work is rooted in years of experience through Anchor Foster Care Services and Esthers for the Nations, bringing hope and dignity to families, parents, and communities.”

Our Mission & Philosophy

Our Mission: To equip, empower, and enable people to flourish in every season of life—whether in parenting, family life, professional growth, or managing transitions such as settling in the diaspora.

Our Philosophy: Ubuntu At the core of our ethos is the Ubuntu philosophy: ‘I am because you are.’ We believe in the power of humanity together rather than apart. As the Tonga people say: ‘Munwe omwe taupwayi ngina‘—one finger cannot crush a louse. We hold to the truth of Psalm 133:1—’How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!‘—a promise that blessing flows from unity.

Our Approach
